The Town Council has awarded Bishop Auckland Remembrance Garden £240 from its Community Fund to provide materials to create a Remembrance Garden in Bishop Auckland.
Bishop Auckland Remembrance Garden Group adopted an unused area of land, located in Albert Hill, Bishop Auckland and has transformed it into a serene garden, to honour the fallen heroes of the town.
The garden which is nearing its completion, includes a section of railway track on sleepers, which as a symbolic link to the troops leaving the town to go to war. There is also a gravelled area with commemorative plaque, together with plants, shrubs and flowers.
The Mayor, Councillor Dave Fleming, presented the cheque to Michael O’Neill and volunteers on Friday 15th June 2018. Dave said: “It is fantastic to see that the Remembrance Garden is almost complete. It will provide a peaceful place for people to pay their respects and remember our fallen heroes.”
The Town Council has allocated up to £5,000 to support local organisations working for the benefit of the residents of Bishop Auckland. Community groups and local charities are invited to apply for grants of up to £500.
