The Mayor of Bishop Auckland Councillor David Fleming, invited Mayors from across the region to a very special afternoon in Bishop Auckland on Tuesday 30th October.
Guests were shown around the Mining Art Gallery and were incredibly impressed with the Gemini Collection and other artwork including the new ‘Breaking ground: Women of the Northern Coalfield’ exhibition on show.
Next on the tour was the Auckland Tower, which boasts its very own 29-metre high tower, with a viewing platform 15-metres up. Intrepid guests scaled to the top of the Tower which offers unsurpassed views across the deer park, the Market Place, and the rural landscape beyond.
After climbing the steps to the top of the tower, everyone was ready for a rest and the last stop of the tour was a sumptuous afternoon tea in Fifteas Tearoom.
Councillor Fleming said:
“The aim of today’s event was twofold, firstly I wanted to show case the fantastic new visitor attractions in the Town and secondly I wanted to raise funds for my chosen charity Woodhouse Community Foodbank.”
“All of the Mayors and guests who attended today had nothing but praise for the Mining Art Gallery and Tower and were in awe of all of the fantastic work that is going in the Town.” he added.
The next Mayoral event is the Christmas Quiz which will be held on 6th December 7pm to 10pm at the home of Bishop Auckland Football Club, Heritage Park.
