I am honoured to serve as Mayor of Bishop Auckland, it’s a real privilege to represent our town and having the opportunity to meet so many wonderful local residents, businesses, community and voluntary groups.
Our town is currently benefiting from significant public and private investment and the opening of major visitor attractions such as the Mining Art Gallery, Auckland Tower and Auckland Castle. As a result, Bishop Auckland is rapidly becoming a must visit North East destination.
Its pleasing to see that these exciting new developments along with a projected increase in visitor numbers are attracting new independent businesses to our high street. However, particularly at this time of year, we must not forget individuals and families who are struggling or have challenges of their own, that is why I am donating my Town Council allowance to Woodhouse Community Crisis Centre and Foodbank and nominated The Angel Trust as my chosen charity.
I would like to thank everyone for their support throughout the year and I hope that you will continue to give generously and support these special local charities who are providing valuable help to so many deserving people.
On behalf of Bishop Auckland Town Council, I would like to wish everyone a Happy Christmas and a healthy New Year.
Councillor Joy Allen
Mayor of Bishop Auckland
