Bishop Auckland Town Council has marked the first NHS, Social Care and Frontline Workers Day with a range of activities, including recognising the ‘NHS BigTea’ with hampers for NHS staff. The national celebration is trying to encourage frontline workers to recharge and take care of their mental health. In support of this Bishop Auckland Town Council have provided hampers to Bishop Auckland General Hospital along with the three GP surgeries in the town. The hampers will help to provide tea break essentials to almost 900 people across the four sites. The tea in the hampers was provided courtesy of the Community Champions at Morrisons Bishop Auckland, Laura Ward and Julie Knighton.
Mayor of Bishop Auckland, Councillor Katie Eliot “The idea of the #BigTea, is an important reminder about taking a break. So being able to say thanks by providing a little something for staff on their rest break is nothing compared to the work which the NHS staff do every day. The challenges and additional pressures which our NHS staff have faced during the pandemic has been unimaginable, but the staff have rose to the challenge and shone. I will forever be grateful for the fabulous NHS and the wonderful staff in our town, who have done us proud, therefore it is only right that we give thanks and prise.”
The pack includes, tea coffee and biscuits to help staff take a time out and recharge.
Allison Hodgson, Practice Manager of Auckland Medical Group has said: “The last 18 months have been difficult but due to massive team work and dedication of staff we have managed to come through it. It has been an honour to be part of the vaccine roll out during the pandemic. The hamper is a lovely gesture and its things like this that have helped the team keep going.”
Bishop Auckland Town Council hopes to build on the celebrations for NHS, Social Care and Frontline Workers Day and celebrate again in 2022.
