Lest We Forget.
Bishop Auckland Town Council in partnership with the Royal British Legion and 8th Battalion the Rifles, is organising a Remembrance Sunday Service and Parade on Sunday 14 November 2021.
The parade, which is being organised by the 8th Battalion the Rifles, will assemble at the Newgate Centre from 10.30am before marching to the War Memorial in the Market Place for the Act of Remembrance at 11.00am.
Arrangements are being made for a parade to march from the Newgate Street to the War Memorial in the Market Place. We would welcome any veterans who would like to march in behind the parade to meet at the Newgate Centre entrance on Newgate street for 10.30am.
Members of the public who wish to pay their respects are asked to assemble in the Market Place from 10.30am.
Wreaths will be laid by members of various organisations, after which a Service of Remembrance will be held in St. Anne’s Church, in the Market Place at around 11:15am.
All are warmly welcome to lay a wreath or pay their respects at the memorial, and organisations/Individuals who do not register will have the opportunity to lay their wreath at the end of the Service.
In addition the free ‘Through Soldiers Eyes’ Exhibition featuring artwork from veterans and the Armed Forces community at the newly refurbished Bishop Auckland Town Hall will also be open from 10am – 2pm. The exhibition enables visitors to explore historical pieces from the DLI Collection alongside artwork, photography, sculptures and oral, visual and written work from service men, women and their families.
