SUMMARY:Rememberance Sunday 2026
DESCRIPTION:Community invited to Remembrance Sunday \nBishop Auckland Town Council will host its annual Remembrance Sunday Parade and Service on Sunday 8th November 2026 gathering from 10:30am for a Service at 11am in Bishop Auckland Market Place.   \nThis important event\, held in partnership with the Royal British Legion\, the Durham Light Infantry (DLI)\, the 8th Battalion the Rifles\, and Bishop Auckland Parish\, provides an opportunity for the community to come together to remember and honour those who gave their lives in service to our country. \nThe parade\, led by the 8th Battalion the Rifles\, will assemble outside the Newgate Centre entrace from 10.30am before parading along Newgate Street\, across the Market Place to the War Memorial\, for the Acts of Remembrance and short service will take place at 11am. Those wishing to join the parade are asked to muster from 10.30am ready to parade just before 11am. \nMayor of Bishop Auckland\, Councillor Michael Siddle said:\n“Remembrance Sunday is an important time for us all to pause\, reflect and remember those who have served our country\, both past and present.\nThis annual parade provides an opportunity for our community to come together in tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice\, as well as those who continue to serve.\nEveryone is welcome to join us as we pay our respects and ensure their courage and commitment are never forgotten.” \nThose wishing to lay a wreath as an Act of Remembrance are asked to gather at from 10:30am at St Anne’s Church\, where they will be asked to follow the parade and gather for the Act of Remembrance\, for 11am. \nFollowing the Act of Remembrance everyone is welcome to join the Service of Remembrance in St Anne’s Church in the Market Place at approximately 11.15am led by Reverend Matt Keddilty of Bishop Auckland Parish. \nAll members of the public are warmly invited to attend and join the community in this important act of remembrance. \nThere is a one-way road closure from Castle Chare junction through the Market Place\, leading to North Bondgate in place from 10:00am to 11:30am.\nParking bays in the Market Place are limited and will not be able to be accessed or vacated once the active road closure is in place.\nThe nearest car parks are located at North Bondgate (DL14 7PG) and at Kingsway\, Castle Chare (DL14 7JF); car parks are not owned or operated by the Town Council and fees may apply.

This December\, Christmas Town brings four days of festive experiences to the heart of our town. \n✨ A Christmas welcome for everyone ✨ \nEntry is free\, so visitors can browse the Christmas market\, enjoy roaming entertainment and festive installations\, and soak up the atmosphere. Make time for a wander through town and a visit to our local shops and businesses while you’re here. \n🎡 Unlimited attractions from £5 🎠  \nFor those looking for more festive fun\, a Golden Pass includes unlimited use of the Ferris Wheel\, Twister\, Helter Skelter\, Fun House\, curling lane and mystery attraction during opening hours on your chosen day. \nIt also includes entry to the Giant Tipis\, subject to capacity\, and 10% off drinks at every Christmas Town bar. Whether you’re planning a family outing or meeting friends for music and a festive drink\, there’s plenty to look forward to. \nGolden Passes cost £5 on Thursday\, £7.50 on Friday and £10 on Saturday or Sunday. \n🎅 A little Christmas magic 🎅  \nA visit to Santa’s Grotto can be added for £5 per child\, with accompanying adult Grotto Passes priced at £2.
