DESCRIPTION:Nominations for the Bishop Auckland Youth Awards 2026 are officially open! \nThis is your chance to recognise a young person who’s doing something special — whether that’s showing leadership\, helping others\, achieving in sport or the arts\, or simply making a real difference in the community. \nIf someone comes straight to mind\, don’t leave it for later. \nNominate here: Bishop Auckland Youth Awards 2026 – Microsoft Form \n \nThe deadline for all nominations is Monday 20th April 2026. \nThe Youth Awards evening will take place on Monday 22nd June 2026 – The Awards Evening is an invitation only event! \nRules\n\nNomination applications to be open for parent\, carer\, youth group organisers\, school personnel\, peers.\nYou cannot nominate yourself for an award.\nThe nominated person must be a resident of Bishop Auckland or attend a school or regularly attend a group or activity in Bishop Auckland.\nNomination dates will be open from 23rd March 2026 to the 20th April 2026. Late nominations will not be considered.\nNominations must not exceed 300 words and be submitted on the online form (hard copies are available).\nA panel of judges will select the winners. This will consist of 3 members of the Town Council.\nWe aim to notify winners by early May 2026.\nIndividual winners will be able to attend the award ceremony with up to 2 adults only (sorry there is no capacity at the venue to extend this invitation).\nGroup winners will be able to attend with up to 10 group members and two leaders.\nThe awards will take place on Monday 22nd June 2025 at from 5:30pm at Bishop Auckland Town Hall.\nWinners parents/guardians will be asked to sign for use of photographs for media/social media and however else Bishop Auckland Town Council choose to use the photographs. SUMMARY:Volunteers Needed\, Flower Bed Planting
DESCRIPTION:Bishop Auckland Town Council is inviting local residents to take part in a Community Planting Day on Wednesday 15th April 2026\, from 10am to 3pm\, as part of its enhanced commitment to maintaining and improving floral displays across the town. \nThis year marks a significant step forward\, as the Town Council has taken full responsibility\, from Durham County Council (DCC) to cover the costs and maintenance of all of the town centre planting\, ensuring that Bishop Auckland continues to enjoy vibrant and welcoming floral displays throughout the year. \nAs part of the programme\, there will be spring tubs in the Market Place in time for the annual Food Festival\, these will then be accompanied with a range of planters\, including three tier displays in the Market Place\, Newgate Street and Theatre Corner.  The Flower beds on Bob Hardisty Drive will also be planted with sustainable plants which will come back year after year. \nCllr Michael Siddle\, Chair of the Allotment and Environment Committee :\n“Bishop Auckland’s floral displays are something our community has always taken pride in. Although we all recognise that the town is going through a difficult period of regeneration\, the Town Council is committed to keeping our public spaces bright\, colourful and welcoming. Last year\, we had fantastic success when volunteers came together to re‑plant the hanging baskets. This year\, being mindful of the rising costs of watering\, we won’t be installing hanging baskets\, but we will be ensuring that there are vibrant floral displays across Newgate Street and Theatre Corner\, not just in the Market Place. \nWe’re asking residents to join us for a few hours to help plant up the flower beds in the Market Place. Whether you’re an experienced gardener or simply want to do something positive for the town\, your support will make a real difference.” \nResidents are encouraged to attend any time between 10am and 3pm.
