Bishop Auckland Town Council met on Tuesday 13th May 2025 for their Annual Meeting, at which the first item of business was to appoint the Mayor for the municipal year 2025-26.
The was unanimous support for Councillor Sam Zair to be appointed as the 18th Mayor of Bishop Auckland, and unanimous support Councillor Michael Siddle has been appointed Deputy Mayor for the Municipal Year 2025-26.
Mayor of Bishop Auckland Sam Zair said:
“I am both honoured and delighted to have been chosen to represent Bishop Auckland Town Council as the 18th Mayor, for the 2025-26 year. As we look ahead, I am eager to work alongside our councillors, local organisations, and residents to strengthen our town, support local initiatives, and celebrate the incredible heritage and future of Bishop Auckland. I am excited for what lies ahead and invite all of you to join me in shaping a bright and thriving future for our community.”
“During my term of office I wish to personally fundraise for the Butterwick Hospice, and I will advertise events in due course.”
Deputy Mayor of Bishop Auckland Siddle said:
“It’s an honour to be chosen as the 2025-26 Deputy Mayor of Bishop Auckland Town Council again, I look forward to working together with the Sam as Mayor for the people of Bishop Auckland.”
