Bishop Auckland Town Council Announces Youth Awards 2025 to Honour Outstanding Young Citizens

Bishop Auckland Town Council is proud to announce the launch of their annual Youth Awards for 2025.  A prestigious program designed to recognise and celebrate the outstanding achievements of young individuals in our community.  The awards aim to highlight those who have made significant contributions and attainment through leadership, community service, academics, athletics, or the arts.

The Youth Awards are open to individuals who reside, attend school or a community group in Bishop Auckland.  Nominations will be accepted from teachers, mentors, community leaders, and peers who have witnessed the nominees’ dedication and positive impact.  The winners will be selected by a panel of Council members and honoured at a special ceremony hosted by the Town Council on Monday 23rd June 2025.

Mayor of Bishop Auckland Councillor Mike Harker said:
“Recognising and celebrating the achievements of our town’s youth is essential.” “These awards highlight the incredible talent, dedication, and hard work of our young citizens who are making a difference in our community.”

Award categories will include, but are not limited to:

  • Overcoming Personal Difficulties Award
  • Arts & Culture Award
  • Sporting Achievement Award
  • Inspirational Young Person Award

The event compere will be Ms. Channy Thompson, a singer/songwriter, social media influencer and has supported artists such as Jess Glynne, Sigala and Olly Murs.

Channy said: “Being a North East Youth and Girl Guiding Ambassador I am passionate about promoting and encouraging the next generation of young people.  I absolutely love hosting the Bishop Auckland Youth Awards, some of the stories are often heart breaking but always inspirational”.

Sponsorship for each category is welcome.  Businesses, organisations, and individuals interested in supporting the Youth Awards through sponsorship are encouraged to contact the Town Council for more details.

The deadline for nomination submissions is Saturday 19th April 2025.  Any nominations received after this deadline cannot be considered.

The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony held at Bishop Auckland Town Hall on Monday 23rd June 2025 at 6pm.
The awards ceremony is by invitation only and nominee’s will receive their invitation in due course.

 


Rules

  • Nomination applications to be open for parent, carer, youth group organisers, school personnel, peers.
  • You cannot nominate yourself for an award.
  • The nominated person must be a resident of Bishop Auckland or attend a school or regularly attend a group or activity in Bishop Auckland.
  • Nomination dates will be open from 8th March 2024 to the 19th April 2025. Late nominations will not be considered
  • Nominations must not exceed 200 words and be submitted on the online form (hard copies are available).
  • A panel of judges will select the winners. This will consist of 3 members of the Town Council.
  • We aim to notify winners be notified by 9th May 2024.
  • Individual winners will be able to attend the award ceremony with up to 2 adults only.
  • Group winners will be able to attend with up to 10 group members and two leaders.
  • The awards will take place on Monday 23rd June 2024 at 6pm at Bishop Auckland Town Hall.
  • Winners parents/guardians will be asked to sign for use of photographs for media/social media and however else Bishop Auckland Town Council choose to use the photographs.
