Bishop Auckland Town Council Brings Holiday Joy with Donations to 27 Local Groups

10 December 2025

Bishop Auckland Town Council is proud to announce that we have supported 27 community organisations across the town through festive donations this season ranging from £100 to £2000. Our commitment to giving back reflects our dedication to strengthening local communities and bringing joy during the holidays.

Among the organisations we’ve supported are:

  • Woodhouse Close Community Centre who are using their donation to provide a lunch on Christmas Day for people who would otherwise be alone
  • Auckland Youth and Community Centre who are using their donation for their Winter Wonderland activities
  • Bishop Auckland Theatre Society who are bringing their Panto to town early in the New Year!
  • Wellbeing groups such as
    • Stoma Support Group
    • Busy Dads Club
    • ManHealth
    • Bishop Auckland Community Partnership
  • Local youth groups, including our local football and rugby teams, scouts and guides, army, and air cadets.

These contributions aim to help these groups continue their incredible work in fostering community spirit, supporting families, and providing opportunities for young people.

Mayor Cllr Sam Zair said:
“Christmas is a time for kindness and community. We are delighted to support so many fantastic local groups who make a real difference in people’s lives. Bishop Auckland Town Council is committed to helping our town thrive, and these donations are just one way we can show our appreciation for all the hard work these organisations do throughout the year.”

Organisations are reminded that the Town Council also runs a Community Fund Scheme for up to £1000. Further details can be found on the Community Fund page.

Through this fund grants have been awarded in 2025 to organisations such as Bishop Auckland Swimming Club, Bishop Auckland Air Cadets, Bishop Auckland Choral Society and Bishop in Bloom to name just a few.
