Bishop Auckland Town Council Supports Over 25 Local Organisations and Community Groups

Bishop Auckland Town Council is proud to announce its continued commitment to the local community by supporting over 25 organisations and community groups in the 2024-25 financial year.

Community Fund; Grants, Funding and Projects tabs in a paper filing systemThrough its community grant funding, donation programme, and the use of premises the Town Council has provided vital assistance to a wide range of initiatives, helping to strengthen community engagement, improve facilities, and enhance services for residents. Beneficiaries include charities, volunteer-led groups, youth organisations, and projects dedicated to health, wellbeing, and cultural enrichment. This includes the Army and Air Cadets, Meals on Wheels, Wear Valley Community Action Group and the use of the office facilities for Citizens Advice Service regularly.

Councillor Mike Harker, Mayor of Bishop Auckland, expressed the Council’s dedication to empowering local groups: “We recognise the invaluable work done by our community organisations and volunteers. By providing this financial support, we are investing in the future of Bishop Auckland and ensuring that vital services and initiatives continue to thrive.”

The funding has been used to support projects that benefit the community, from young people and families to the elderly and vulnerable members of society. Previous recipients have utilised the funds for community events, equipment purchases, facility improvements, and essential operational costs.

The Auckland Youth and Community Centre said “We are very grateful to the Town Council for their support — it means a lot and helps us keep making a positive difference in the community.”
