Bishop Auckland Horticultural Show 2018

21 August 2018

A selection of leeks awarded First and Second Prize in the Horticultural and Produce Show
1st and 2nd prize awarded to entries in the Leek category.

Bishop Auckland’s Annual Horticulture and Produce Show never fails to deliver a wonderful display of locally grown flowers, produce, arts and crafts.

The Show will take place in Bishop Auckland Town Hall on Saturday 29th September 2018, alongside the Bishop Celebrates Together offerings in the Market Place.

Organised by the Town Council with the valued help of local growers and in partnership with The Auckland Project and St Anne’s Church, the Show offers over 40 classes for adults and children to get involved in.  These range from classes for leeks, onions, chrysanthemum and dahlias for serious competition growers to cress heads, painted pebbles, WW1 remembrance poems and poppy pictures for the younger exhibitors.  There is also a home produce category featuring jams, scones, pies, corsages, flower arrangements – and a favourite of the judges, chocolate cake!

The Mayor of Bishop Auckland Councillor Dave Fleming said:
“This is the fourth year the Show has been held.  We are looking for gardeners, enthusiasts, bakers, makers and creators of all ages and experience to get involved.  The emphasis is really on enjoying what you do and joining in a fun event.  It’s great that Bishop Celebrates Together is happening on the same day as it provides a real sense of community.”

The Town Hall will be open from 12.00 noon until 3.00 pm on Saturday 29th September for viewing and to discover who has been awarded prizes.

Presentations will be made by the Mayor at 2.30 pm followed by an auction of most of the produce at 3.00 pm.  All money raised by the auction and any surplus produce will be donated to the Mayor’s chosen charity, Woodhouse Community Food Bank.
