Earlier today (23rd October 2026), Bishop Auckland Town Council experienced an unauthorised access to one of its email accounts.
The issue was identified quickly and has now been resolved.
Appropriate security measures have been implemented and there is currently no evidence of any wider impact on Council systems.
Anyone who receives an unexpected email purporting to contain a voicemail from the Council should not attempt to open it or read the text transcript and delete it from your device and report it to their provider as a threat/scam.
